d.light design is a social enterprise dedicated to bringing modern lighting and power to underserved populations including 1.6B people currently without electricity globally.

Management Team
Sam Goldman, CEO
Sam grew up in Mauritania, Pakistan, Peru, India, and Rwanda. After graduating with degrees in Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of Victoria, Canada, he spent four years in Benin with the Peace Corps founding and managing a for-profit NGO (GARPE-ONG) which runs a large rural agricultural training center. With GARPE, he built Benin’s first factory to process leaves from the nutritional plant, Moringa oleifera, to provide nutritional supplements to hospitals and health centers. Nedjip Tozun, President
Ned graduated from
Stanford with degrees in Computer Science and Earth Systems. A serial entrepreneur, he has founded several start-ups. He co-founded and was the CTO of Namewaves, where he
designed and patented technology that was used to develop and launch several products in
the mobile content and specialty gift markets in the US, Europe and Japan. Ned earned an MBA from Stanford. |
Gabriel Risk, CTO
Gabe has developed innovative technologies and been at the forefront of electrical and optical design. He currently holds 3 patents in the fields of non-linear optics and MEMS and was a founder of Collinear Corporation where he developed technology to generate low-cost, high intensity white light using non-linear optics. Gabe has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. |
Xianyi Wu
Xian was an officer in the Singapore army. He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, with a specialization in product design. He designed a communication system for BMW, iPods for Apple Inc., and a sewer robot in Pittsburgh. Xian spent a summer doing social work in a village in Timor Leste. In addition to his operational responsibilities, Xian is the product development and manufacturing engineer for d.light, as well as graphics and web editor. |
Erica Estrada
Erica has her B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford, and is currently leading the Mechanical Engineering and product design operations for d.light. She developed a shifting interface for Volkswagen's new transmission, as well as a plane-painting system for Boeing. She has previous work experience with the US Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Examiner, and as a project support engineer for Liquefied Natural Gas projects. |
